Occupational Therapy helping you with all your everyday tasks…

What we do…

Health problems, disability or injury can affect how we do the everyday tasks that we can sometimes take for granted such as brushing our teeth, getting upstairs, making a brew or getting out of bed. Occupational therapy can help and so can Lancashire OT.

Lancashire OT is a private occupational therapy service based in Preston, Lancashire. It was set up by Heather Seddon, occupational therapist with 13 years experience working in various health and social care settings and with people of all ages.

Lancashire OT specialises in the assessment and recommendation of equipment and adaptations to help people stay independent.

So, what is occupational therapy?

Occupational therapists help people of all ages to overcome the difficulties they face with every day activities (or “occupations” as the title suggests) due to a health problem, disability or injury. These can include work, self-care or leisure activities. Lancashire OT can advise on different techniques or ways of doing things to make tasks easier or safer.

An occupational therapist knows the importance of being occupied. In life, the roles we have give us purpose and can define who we are. The activities we do can give us a sense of achievement and enjoyment. Everyone is unique, and occupational therapists embrace this by focussing on what is important to the individual. When we can’t do the things we want to it can affect our physical and mental health. When we are most happy we are normally busy doing.

During an occupational therapy assessment with Lancashire OT you will have the opportunity to tell us what you want to do, so we can help you find a way.

Lancashire OT can provide advice on your home, workplace and out and about in the community.

Why go private?

Unfortunately due to pressures on the NHS and Local Authorities, occupational therapy services are often stretched and there can be long waiting lists and reduced funding available.

Lancashire OT can see you quickly and can provide an expert assessment of your needs with a range of solutions, which can be tailored to your budget – the choice is up to you. For example, we can provide advice on simple bathing equipment or full modern bathroom re-design. We offer one-off assessments or ongoing support for more complex home adaptation schemes. We work alongside mobility shops, contractors, surveyors and other helpful organisations.

What can you expect?

Lancashire OT offers a friendly and professional approach. Following an assessment you will be provided with a copy of your report with a list of recommendations. You can implement any recommendations yourself or we can guide and support you through the process – the choice is yours.

If you are struggling with activities at home, work or out and about, why not visit our website or contact us to find out how we can help.  We would love to hear from you and you can be reassured that your occupational therapist is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.
