Tricentenary – Grimsargh St. Michael’s Celebrates 300 Years!
2016 marks a very special anniversary in the history of Grimsargh St. Michael’s Church. This year marks the 300 year anniversary. While the existing church is not 300 years old, there has been a place of worship in Grimsargh for 300 years and that in itself is certainly worth celebrating. The current church was rebuilt in1840 and 1868, facilitated by the generous patronage of William and Ellen Cross of neighbouring Red Scar mansion. To celebrate this anniversary, a committee of enthusiastic volunteers has organised a wide range of events throughout the year. However, the main week of celebrations takes place between Saturday 10th September and Sunday 18th September.
Saturday 10th September – Setting up of community window displays, 10am in Church.
Sunday 11th September – Morning Service, 10am in Church. The speaker will be the Archdeacon. In the evening, 7.30pm, a short history of the church will be presented in drama and music. This event will take place in Church.

During the week of the Tricentenary, the church will be opened from 11am until 3.30pm. Everyone is very welcome to come into church, look at the window displays and the wonderful brass engravings of the Cross family vault, while enjoying a cup of coffee and a chat. Church will be open from Monday 12th September until Saturday the 17th September. A very warm welcome is extended to everyone, to come into church, to find out more about the church’s history and to discover what is going on!
In addition, later in the year, Friday 14th October, there will be a “Cheese and Wine Evening” in the village hall. On this occasion several original paintings of the church will be auctioned.
